Press release: Tanner De Witt celebrates 100% trainee retention rate and welcomed 2022 intake

Hong Kong law firm Tanner De Witt is delighted to announce 100% successful retention of its trainees who qualified in 2022 and are now admitted as solicitors with the firm.

The trainees joining Tanner De Witt as solicitors are:

Austin graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management and Technology, followed by a Master’s Degree in Natural Resources and Environment Sustainable Systems from the University of Michigan. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong.

Jamie graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Arts and subsequently obtained her Juris Doctor degree and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the same university.

Jeeby obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Durham in the UK and a Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from City University of Hong Kong.

Samantha obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at the University of Hong Kong and completed her Juris Doctor and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Tanner De Witt’s training programme is composed of four six-month seats. Trainees have the opportunity to gain experience in contentious and non-contentious work in four of five core practice areas: Corporate and Commercial, Dispute Resolution, Restructuring and Insolvency, Employment, and Family.

The training programme demonstrates the firm’s dedication to developing the careers of its assistant solicitors. Sunny Hathiramani, who joined Tanner De Witt as a trainee in 2010, was promoted in 2019 to Partner. He is one of three home-grown partners at the firm, the first being River Stone who was made up a year prior and the latest being Tim Au, promoted to Partner on 1 January 2023.

The firm admits several trainees a year; this year the cohort is comprised of Crystal Chan, Jacqueline Poon, James Li, Julian Chan and Phoebe Chan.

Crystal Chan

Crystal completed her PCLL, LLB and BA at the University of Hong Kong. She is a native Cantonese and English speaker and fluent in Mandarin.

Jacqueline Poon

Jacqueline completed her PCLL and LLB at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has completed several internships at law firms and mini pupillages at chambers in Hong Kong, London and China, as well as interning at the Department of Justice. Jacqueline is a native Cantonese and English speaker and fluent in Mandarin.

James Li

James completed his PCLL and BBA(Law)&LLB at the University of Hong Kong. He completed several internships at law firms and mini pupillages at chambers in Hong Kong and London, as well as experience as a court marshal at the Court of Final Appeal. James is a native Cantonese speaker and fluent in English and Mandarin.

Julian Chan

Julian completed his PCLL at the University of Hong Kong and LLB at Durham University. He completed several internships at law firms and mini pupillages at chambers in Hong Kong. Julian is a native Cantonese speaker and fluent in English and Mandarin.

Trainee Solicitor Phoebe Chan
Phoebe Chan

Phoebe  completed her PCLL at the City University of Hong Kong and LLB at King’s College London. Prior to joining Tanner De Witt, Phoebe was working at a Blackstone-backed legal tech company. She is a native Cantonese and English speaker and fluent in Mandarin.
