Sunny is a partner in Tanner De Witt’s restructuring and insolvency and international arbitration practices. He provides strategic counsel to a diverse client base, including private equity funds, distressed companies, and insolvency practitioners. A seasoned litigator, he specialises in high-stakes contested cross-border insolvencies, shareholder disputes, and complex fraud and directors’ duty claims, consistently delivering robust advocacy for his clients.
Sunny’s strategic acumen is further demonstrated in his representation of clients in international arbitrations under the HKIAC and other major rules. His sector-specific expertise spans the electric vehicle, automotive, financial services, and pharmaceutical industries. Complementing this work, he regularly advises financial institutions on high-stakes contentious regulatory matters, guiding them through complex investigations by the SFC, the Insurance Authority, and other financial regulators.

- Representing the Joint Provisional Liquidators of a Cayman incorporated company in a complex, multi-jurisdictional asset-protecting exercise. The matter involved pursuing claims against former directors (and their affiliates) and protecting assets of the company in the Mainland worth over US$1 billion
- Acted for the trustee-in-bankruptcy of a high-net-worth Japanese individual in a multi-jurisdictional asset recovery matter, successfully securing and realising assets valued in excess of HK$50 million located in Hong Kong
- Represented a 50% shareholder in a PRC-incorporated joint venture in a contentious just and equitable winding-up petition. The case involved allegations of serious deadlock and exclusion from management, ultimately resulting in a court-ordered liquidation and contempt proceedings against the counterparty
- Acted as lead Hong Kong counsel in the wind-down of an international diamond retail group, overseeing the closure of its flagship high-end boutiques and the complex realisation of a luxury asset portfolio
- Acted for a Milan Stock Exchange-listed automotive design firm in a high-value cross-border claim. Successfully petitioned the Hong Kong court to wind up a subsidiary of a Hong Kong-listed entity for non-payment of a €3 million debt
International Arbitration
- Assisting Singapore counsel to obtain urgent interim relief from an HKIAC emergency arbitrator on behalf of a Singapore retail trust to restrain the counterparty directly or indirectly terminating or replacing the trustee-manager pending the constitution of the main tribunal, preserving the status quo and our client’s business
- Advised a multinational pharmaceutical corporation in successfully resolving a high-value HKIAC arbitration initiated by its PRC distributor
- Representing a UHNWI to obtain a worldwide Mareva injunction in Hong Kong in aid of arbitration proceedings commenced in the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. This matter involved assets globally, including shares held in a NYSE-listed company

Troy Greig leads the firm’s Fraud and Asset Recovery department and is also a Partner in our Restructuring and Insolvency department. His practice focuses on contentious matters, particularly complex and cross-border fraud and asset recovery, commercial and insolvency-related litigation, and regulatory and compliance matters. Troy is recognised as a key member of the team in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific ranking of Hong Kong restructuring and insolvency lawyers.
Troy advises on high value fraud matters involving identifying and tracing assets and recovery, enforcing judgments and pre-emptive relief such as injunctions, disclosure orders and court appointed receivers. Tim is a Partner in our Restructuring and Insolvency Practice having joined the firm as a Trainee Solicitor in 2012. Tim’s focus is on restructuring and insolvency, with a particular focus on contentious matters. He regularly advises insolvency office-holders (including the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms and other prominent accounting firms with an insolvency practice) and corporate clients on all aspects of restructuring and insolvency issues. He advises on schemes of arrangement, recovery of assets in insolvency estates (in particular pursuing and defending transaction avoidance claims), cross-border insolvency issues such as recognition of foreign officeholders and foreign restructuring processes, examination of persons capable of assisting insolvency office-holders, all aspects of enforcement including debt recovery; and a wide range of court applications in relation to administrative matters in bankruptcies/liquidations particularly concerning officeholders’ remuneration.
Tim has a particular interest in schemes of arrangement with a cross-border element having acted on the Kaisa and the Burwill schemes. He also advises on contentious scheme matters and successfully opposed the sanctioning of the Century Sun scheme. Tim regularly appears in the Companies Court and Bankruptcy Court.
Additionally, Tim advises in relation to general commercial litigation matters including contractual disputes and banking litigation matters (such as debt recovery and security enforcement). Tim has extensive experience in trial work having conducted several High Court trials.

Doug has over 30 years’ experience handling litigation and arbitration matters in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Doug worked in Hong Kong from 1993 to 2000. He moved to Shanghai in 2000 where he was based 11 years. He established and was managing partner of the Shanghai office of a large international firm until 2010. In 2011, he returned to Hong Kong to practice as a barrister and arbitrator. He was re-admitted as a solicitor in 2021. He regularly appears in the higher Hong Kong courts as a solicitor advocate and also acts as counsel in arbitrations. He sits as an arbitrator and is a Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Board of Review. He has been a member of the HKAIC Appointments Committee since 2023.
Doug’s principal practice area is intellectual property (IP). He also handles cryptocurrency, breach of trust and general commercial claims.
In the IP field, his expertise includes handling complex multi-jurisdictional patent litigation, often related to standard essential patents, and acting as arbitrator or counsel in numerous patent and high technology arbitrations. As an advocate, he established new law in Hong Kong in relation to anti-circumvention technologies and handled numerous high-value trademark and passing off cases. He has also obtained interim injunctions in relation to infringement of all types of IP rights, including multiple Anton Piller orders and Mareva injunctions. Early in his career, he participated in raids on hundreds of factories and warehouses in Mainland China.
Doug’s non-contentious IP experience includes negotiation and advising on technology transfer contracts, conducting patent and other intellectual property audits, and freedom to operate analyses. He has also provided expert evidence on Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong law in overseas court proceedings and international arbitrations.
As an author, Doug is the author of four legal texts: Patent Litigation in China, Intellectual Property in China, Hong Kong Intellectual Property, and Civil Litigation in Hong Kong, and numerous articles on intellectual property. He has also written a three-volume history of extraterritoriality in China and Japan, titled Gunboat Justice.
Doug studied on exchange at high school in Kobe, Japan, and on an Australian/Chinese government scholarship at Fudan University, Shanghai, China. He is fluent in both Japanese and Chinese. Doug studied Chinese and Chinese law at Fudan University in Shanghai from 1988 to 1990. He graduated with degrees Law and Asian Studies from the Australian National University in 1992. Biography
Mark is a partner in our Employment Practice and has over 7 years of specialised experience in respect of the employment law in Hong Kong.
Since joining the firm in 2018, Mark’s practice involves advising both employer and employees on a wide spectrum of employment law issues including recruitment, remuneration, termination, separation, post-termination restrictions, discrimination, harassment, drafting of handbooks and other HR-related policies/documents and other labour disputes.
Mark has considerable experience in contentious employment law and litigation in the Labour Tribunal, the District Court, the Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeal. These disputes concerned a diverse range of issues including unauthorised removal of company, claim of significant bonuses, negligent/fraudulent conduct at work and wrongful termination of employment.
Leveraging his prior experience as an in-house counsel at the Equal Opportunities Commission of Hong Kong, Mark regularly advises clients on discrimination and harassment issues under the Anti-Discrimination Ordinances and conducts large scale internal training for employers in this respect. He has developed and expanded this expertise into conducting and handling internal investigations by employers into potential misconduct and serious breaches of employment contracts by employees.
Mark is focused on delivering strategic and pragmatic advice to clients in different settings. He is also committed to devoting his time to pro-bono work in the community by participating in the various committees of the Law Society of Hong Kong and providing free consultation to those in need through referral by non-government organisations.

- Assisted the plaintiff in successfully obtaining summary judgment in a landmark Court of Appeal case against GF Capital (Hong Kong) Ltd [2020] HKCA 663 in relation to the payment of a guaranteed bonus.
- Assisted a senior executive of a multinational equity fund in successfully striking out a claim in the High Court brought by his employer seeking relief to assist in the Cayman Islands proceedings.
- Assisted a leading brokerage company in successfully resisting an application in the High Court for the determination of questions of law or construction under Order 14A in relation to the interpretation of a sign-on bonus clause in an employment contract.
- Assisted a leading insurance loss adjusting service provider in relation to proceedings in the High Court seeking a ‘springboard’ injunction and other relief relating to the removal of confidential information after a team departure.
- Conducted internal investigations for sexual harassment complaints for an international financial institution and assisted in the successful conciliation of the complaints lodged with the Equal Opportunities Commission.
- Assisted in a large-scale due diligence process concerning Hong Kong employment issues.
- Assisted in advising a leading real estate company in revising employment contracts and other employment-related policies.
