Monique is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in our Intellectual Property Practice. She was admitted as a legal practitioner in New South Wales, Australia and subsequently as a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong in 2004.

Monique has many years of experience in handling contentious intellectual property matters in Hong Kong. She has been the principal lawyer responsible for applying for and executing numerous ex-parte applications for search and seizure orders (Anton Piller orders) and asset freezing orders (Mareva injunctions). She has also handled numerous actions for discovery orders to facilitate the tracing of money and to identify the supplier and customer network of infringers.

Monique has advised rights owners in a wide range of industries in trademark, copyright, designs and passing off actions. She has, over her career, acted for almost all major players in the video game industry and advised clients in a wide range of industries including clothing, footwear, sportswear, diet supplements, beauty, kitchen utensils, toys, pharmaceuticals and financial services.

Monique has represented clients to work with the Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department to bring over 1,000 criminal prosecutions in Hong Kong concerning infringement of registered trademark rights, copyright and circumvention devices. On the non-contentious side, she is also experienced in licensing matters concerning film and music as well as matters concerning artist management.

Monique previously worked in the intellectual property department of the Hong Kong office of an international law firm for 20 years. She also spent one year as an in-house legal consultant with a film production company where she was involved in artist management and film and music licensing matters.

  • Acting for a client on a dietary supplement product involving passing off claims on the get-up of a copycat product
  • Obtaining numerous disclosure orders against banks and third parties relating to infringement of IP rights
  • Obtaining numerous interim injunctions orders including search and seizure orders and asset freezing orders (including one order to be simultaneously executed with criminal raid actions in the Mainland of China)

Monique has previously worked as part-time lecturer on intellectual property laws at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
