Tanner De Witt expands IP Practice

Tanner De Witt announces the appointment of Douglas Clark as Partner to join its Intellectual Property practice. The appointment is effective today, Friday 1st September 2023.

This marks a significant advancement in the firm’s strategic initiative to enhance its IP practice along with its litigation and arbitration capabilities. As an IP attorney with 30 years experience, Doug has acted for many of the IP industries leading companies. His alignment with the firm’s collaborative ethos makes him an exceptional match.

Doug is a solicitor advocate in Hong Kong having previously practiced as a barrister for 9 years. He is also admitted in England & Wales and Victoria Australia. He was based in Shanghai for 11 years from 2000 to 2011 and handled many leading IP cases there.

In his career, Doug has handled the entire range of contentious IP cases including running complex multi-jurisdictional patent litigation (often in relation to standard essential patents); acting as arbitrator or counsel in numerous patent and high technology arbitrations; establishing new law in relation to anti-circumvention technologies; and numerous high value trademark and passing off cases. He has also obtained interim injunctions in relation to infringement of all types of IP rights including multiple Anton Piller orders and Mareva injunctions.

Douglas advises a broad range of international and Hong Kong companies.

He has been recognised as a leading IP lawyer by IAM (Patent 1000 2023), Chambers & Partners and Who’s Who Legal.  The latter has recognised him as a thought leader and a national leader for all types of IP in China.

Doug graduated with degrees in law and Asian Studies from the Australian National University in 1992. He studied Chinese and Chinese law at Fudan University in Shanghai from 1988 to 1990.  He completed the Hong Kong Post Graduate Certificate in Laws in 1994.
