Press release: Tanner De Witt celebrates 100% trainee retention rate and welcomes 2018 intake

Independent Hong Kong law firm Tanner De Witt is delighted to announce that it is retaining 100% of its trainees who are due to qualify in 2018, after all three trainees have accepted associate positions with the firm.

The trainees joining Tanner De Witt as associates are:

  • Hayley Hui (Corporate Commercial)
  • Tara Chan (Corporate Commercial)
  • Kevin Siu (Litigation and Dispute Resolution)

The addition of Tara and Hayley will bring the Corporate Commercial fee earner head count to 19. Hayley received her Bachelor of Business Administration (Laws), Bachelor of Laws and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) from the University of Hong Kong. A graduate of McGill University in Canada, Tara earned her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws and graduated with Dean’s List from the City University of Hong Kong.

Our Litigation and Dispute Resolution department will welcome Kevin Siu, who received his Bachelor of Business Administration (Law), Bachelor of Law and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) from the University of Hong Kong.

Tanner De Witt’s training programme is composed of four six-month seats. Trainees have the opportunity to gain experience in contentious and non-contentious work in four of five core practice areas: Corporate and Commercial, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Insolvency and Restructuring, Employment, and Family and Private Client.

Established since 1999, the training programme demonstrates the firm’s dedication to developing the careers of its associates. River Stone, who joined Tanner De Witt as a trainee, was promoted last year to Partner and Head of the China Practice Group. The firm takes on three to four trainees a year; this year, they are Raymond Ko, Ling Meng, and Josephine Zhou.

Raymond Ko

Raymond received a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. He went on to complete his Juris Doctor and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) at the University of Hong Kong. Raymond is a keen runner and has participated in local and overseas races. In his free time, he also organises and leads hikes and outdoor activities for community organisations. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Ling Meng

Ling obtained her Juris Doctor and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong. Prior to her legal studies, she obtained her BA in Sociology from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou before moving to California to pursue an MA in Museum Studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. While completing her degree, Ling worked with museums, galleries and artists and curated a number of exhibitions. Ling follows contemporary art and has herself participated in performance pieces. She goes to galleries and exhibitions whenever possible.

Josephine Zhou

Josephine received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Hong Kong in 2017 and earned her Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) from the University of Hong Kong in 2018. Born and educated in Shanghai, she is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Josephine has been practicing Chinese Calligraphy for more than 10 years. She has won a number of national competitions and has even taught students Chinese Calligraphy during university.
