Ian De Witt to speak at INSOL Hong Kong One Day Seminar
0611 月2018Insolvency and Restructuring Partner Ian De Witt will be speaking on a panel at the INSOL Hong Kong One Day Seminar, which we are supporting as Platinum Sponsor. The Seminar will be held at the Four Seasons Hong Kong on Wednesday 7 November; Ian is speaking on the panel “Cross-border insolvencies involving Asia, the US and relevant offshore jurisdictions: A practical look at EMAS and China Fishery”.
About the panel
In a shrinking world with expanding Asian economies cross-border border issues constantly arise and insolvencies across jurisdictions continue to prove particularly challenging.
This knowledgeable and distinguished panel will steer through some of the issues by way of reviewing case studies including EMAS Chiyoda Subsea Ltd, a Singapore based subsea services company which filed for Chapter 11 protection in March 2017; and China Fishery Group Ltd, a company which forms part of the Pacific Andes Group, the world’s twelfth largest seafood company, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in June 2016 despite having its centre of operations in Asia and crown jewel assets in Peru.
From Azerbaijan and Bermuda to Singapore and the US, the panel will consider the background and some of the problems and difficulties thrown up by these cases and compare the interaction of several legal jurisdictions and laws and their various and sometimes diverging approaches to restructuring.
