Fifth Inaugural International Invitational Fat Boys Tens Tournament 2008

Once again Tanner De Witt were principal sponsors of the Fat Boys Tens rugby tournament, which took place at Challenger Airfield, Clark Airbase, Angeles City, Philippines on 6 September 2008, raising money for the Bahay Bata Center for Street Children in Angeles City (further information here) and the Philippines Rugby Football Union Development Fund. The 2007 event raised in excess of HK$290,000 for these two worthy causes, and it is expected that an even higher figure will have been achieved by this year's event.

Youth rugby at the Fat Boys Tens

This year's event included a display of youth rugby, and it is gratifying for us to learn that one or two of the children from the Batay Baha Center are on the verge of reaching the Philippine National Rugby Team, which is an amazing achievement for these children.

A record-breaking 16 teams took part in this year's event, with teams from throughout South East Asia and the Middle East, new teams including the Taipei Baboons, Causeway Bay Buccaneers and Cebu Low Flying Dragons, and a total of five teams from the Philippines, demonstrating the extent to which the game is beginning to take hold in the country.
